Construction & Contracting

Attendance systems that survive a UAE site, and the hands that build it

IP-rated terminals at the gate, palm recognition for worn fingerprints, labour accommodation tracking and per-project cost allocation. Configured for how UAE contractors actually run sites.

  • IP65 outdoor-rated units
  • Palm recognition for worn hands
  • Per-project cost allocation
  • Bus and accommodation tracking

The attendance problem on a UAE construction site

Sites break attendance in ways offices never do. Fingerprints are worn smooth by manual labour. Gates sit in direct sun, dust and 45°C summers. Workers travel by bus from an accommodation an hour away and the payroll question is really 'how many productive hours did the bus deliver to which project'. A generic office terminal does not answer any of this.

What we specify for a construction site

IP65 outdoor terminals at the gate

Rated for UAE summer, dust and rain. Not an indoor unit in a plastic box; a genuinely outdoor-rated reader that keeps working through July and August.

Palm recognition for worn hands

ZKTeco ProFace X reads the palm vein pattern, which is unaffected by fingerprint wear. Workers whose ridges are gone still clock in reliably.

Face recognition as a backup

For workers whose palms are wet or whose hands are gloved, face recognition works from a metre away and clears the gate without a queue.

Multi-site database

Head office sees every site in one dashboard. Foremen see only their own site. Site-level payroll rolls up to a single WPS-ready file.

Per-project cost allocation

Hours worked tagged against a project, so cost accounting sees where every hour went rather than a single monthly total.

Bus and accommodation tracking

Optional add-on: RFID cards on the bus record who boarded and where, so 'in transit' is visible before it becomes a missing worker on the site log.

What we ask about at the survey

1

How many gates and how much throughput?

A single gate with 300 workers at 06:30 needs a high-throughput face terminal. Two gates with 150 each is a different specification. We count and time it before recommending.

2

Where is the terminal actually mounted?

Direct-sun mounting is a face-terminal killer. We often specify a fingerprint/palm reader at the outdoor gate and face recognition at the internal office entrance.

3

What is the hand condition of the workforce?

If more than 20% have worn fingerprints, palm recognition is the primary method, not the backup. Fingerprint-only enrolment on that workforce fails on day one.

4

Do you run buses?

If yes, adding RFID on the bus links attendance to transport. Missed pickups become visible immediately rather than at end-of-shift.

Construction attendance questions

What happens when a worker's fingerprints are worn from labour?

We enrol them on palm recognition (ZKTeco ProFace X) or face as the primary method, not fingerprint. We do this at enrolment rather than discovering it on payroll day.

Can we track workers across multiple project sites?

Yes. Terminals at each site report into one central database. Workers can clock in at any site they are assigned to, and their hours roll up correctly for payroll.

How do we handle worker transport from accommodation?

Optional RFID readers on the buses record boarding and alighting. This makes 'in transit', 'at site' and 'no-show' visible in real time rather than at end-of-day reconciliation.

Will the terminal survive UAE summer at an exposed gate?

The units we recommend for gates are IP65-rated for outdoor use. A standard indoor terminal in that position fails within a season; we do not install those on gates and would refuse if asked.

Can we allocate hours to specific projects for cost accounting?

Yes. Punches are tagged with project or cost centre at the point of capture. Reports break hours down by project so cost accounting sees exactly where the workforce went.
